“85% of your financial success is due to your personality and ability to communicate, negotiate, and lead. Shockingly, only 15% is due to technical knowledge.”

~ Carnegie Institute of Technology

In the recent times, I’ve learnt and unlearnt a whole bunch of things in the professional sphere, something that reflected on my blog and social media too. I found myself to be more confident of my work, and at peace with the fact that the kind of work that I do might take time to pick up. I was suddenly okay with limited clients, as long as whatever it is that I was doing was making me happy. Then how is it that I found myself to be richer, emotionally and otherwise?

I think a lot of it has to do with gratefulness. Gratitude teaches you to be happy with what you have, and next thing you know, you realise how lucky you are to have been blessed with everything in your life.

I started this practice by maintaining a gratitude journal, and I think this is when I saw things truly manifesting, you know what I mean? It was almost magical. I was getting recognized for my work, exactly what I wanted to work on was accidently on purpose in my kitty, my relationships were flourishing and I was doing exactly what I loved.

To many, this was luck. They say you realise who your true friends are during the bad times. I feel this is true for the good times too ; not many will truly, genuinely celebrate your happiness with you. I learnt to cut off from all that was making me feel low, under confident and well, not good enough. Tough process, but it worked.

Does this mean I am complacent now? No! The fire of ambition is burning within me, stronger than ever. There is clarity that I’ve never had before this. Yes, I am still figuring out a lot of things but I’m not running around like a headless chicken anymore, without a strategy.

So how did this professional change happen?

I believe that a lot of things that happen professionally have a lot to do with your personal outlook on things. Simple things like work life balance, giving time to yourself and your family, taking time off, spending some me-time for your personal growth, your ability to prioritize and to manage time and your attitude about all of this reflects in your professional life too.

Today, we’re bombarded with information on the internet. Wherever we look, there’s some information that is being thrown at us. In all of this, how do we separate the useful information from the unimportant one? How do we make sure we’re learning and growing because of what we’re reading, watching or listening to? Honestly, I believe this can only happen if you WANT to be motivated to learn and grow.

So step 1- figure out if you really want to do something, and why do you want to do it. That is where you will find your motivation.

For me- I want to travel, I want to meet new people, see new places, eat new food, workout in every corner of the world. To make this happen, I work hard. I love to write, and I make sure I use this well. Back in 2012 I would never have imagined my life to be this way. I was so scared to write! I’m still feeling like I’m living in a dream, writing and making this my career, getting paid for this and using that money to fuel my dream of traveling. But none of this is luck.

The last few years for me have been transformational because I grew emotionally, mentally and physically strong. I took the help of mentors, healers, spiritual gurus, personal trainers and yoga teachers to grow. Initially it all sounded silly to me, where I placed too much logic into things that required so much more than just that. So if you’re considering getting started with a little help, there is absolutely nothing embarrassing about getting a guide! In fact a guide will open up a whole new world for you. And you know what the best part is? The fact that you wish to get a guide means you’re already done with step 1!

If this is something that interests you (I came across this on Instagram, but cannot make it since I am traveling on those dates, but it seems like exactly what I’d do) check out the LifePlugin Summit that’s scheduled for April this year.

LifePlugin Summit is a 3-day immersion in a process they call “Life Designing”, where all the participants come together to understand the various aspects of personal transformation. I do have a couple of friends who attended this in Goa last year, and they tell me it’s nothing short of transformational.  The Summit this time will be held at Club Mahindra Resort in Shimla from 19th to 21st April. Check out the schedule, after-movies and the gorgeousness of the location here.

Mental health, Emotional Intelligence, Leadership, Relationships, Mindset, Health & Fitness, Spirituality, Mindfulness are the skills that truly create a successful and meaningful life, and unfortunately are not taught in schools and universities. I hope to spread more awareness about holistic health, and not just hitting the gym to look a certain way. My aim is to introduce people to a new world through the world of fitness- emotional, mental, spiritual as well as physical.
