Dumbbells and Drama

Last week I finally ended up at the much talked about Indian restaurant  Kangan at The Westin, Pune. I have come across some great reviews from some very authentic sources, so yes, Kangan was definitely  in my list of “Must Visit Restaurants in Pune” So was it worth the hype? Let’s find out!

kangan the westin review

The new menu features cuisine from the legendary North-West Frontier and Hyderabad. Which basically means I am finally eating the cuisine that I enjoy the most (those who know me have seen me go through the different phases of OD’ing on this rich cuisine) The chef also informed us of a nouvelle vegetarian menu that contained  dishes made from farm fresh  vegetables cooked with authentic hand-made spices. Vegetarian food neevr really excited but, but hey, no harm in giving it a try right?

As you know, I am not a big fan of vegetarian food, so you can imagine my surprise when I went for another one of those crispy karela chips. Yes, karela (bitter-gourd) And when I ended up loving a vegetarian dish more than the non vegetarian varieties that were served that night. All this and a lot more…I literally did go into a food come that night.Check it out!

Kangan Chaat Platter 2
The Chaat Platter- this seemed quite popular with the customers who were dining with us. The popcorn bhel is quite a cute concept to be honest.
Kangan Chaat Platter
My favorite part of the chaat platter was the fried spinach leaf. A different take on the regular papdi…pretty neat!

kurkuri karela and anardana with figs chutney Kangan
The karela chips- mind you they are GOOD! The sweetness of fig and sour tinge of yogurt makes this chips-dip combo pretty interesting. I had 5 chips, my mother is so proud of me.
