Dumbbells and Drama

I am sure you must have noticed the Vivanta by Taj billboards around the city talking about the ongoing food festival at it’s Oriental restaurant – Whispering Bamboo. On a related side-note, Whispering Bamboo has been a family favorite since quite a few years. It’s almost tradition to celebrate anniversaries and birthdays at this restaurant that serves some absolutely brilliant duck and chicken in oyster sauce. So of course I had to jump onto the invitation to check out this Chinese American Food Festival this weekend. Was it worth it? Sadly, I’d prefer going in on a normal day.

Here is what the dinner date was all about –

The seafood soup which I hope is a part of the regular menu because it totally should!

The sesame prawns which were the highlight of the evening. I’d strongly recommend this, and once again hope to see this in the regular menu.
The lemon-honey chicken was too sweet- it clearly didn’t suit my taste buds.

The veg spring roll could do with some flavour- maybe I am used to eating spicy spring rolls. This one had egg, and was bland compared to what we Indians are used to (this has been prepared keeping in mind the American taste)

There’s iced tea, then there’s Iced Tea at Whispering Bamboo. LOVED this one! This one is a little different and I suggest you try it.
egg stuffed with chicken united states of china food fest vivanta by taj.
This omelette was stuffed with chicken, and could have made for an excellent dish had it not been low on flavours. Once again, this is completely due to the fact that we are used to eating a lot of spices and salt.

I really enjoyed this Cantonese styled chicken with rice. Comfort food 🙂

Butter garlic prawns were fabulous!
desserts united states of china food fest vivanta by taj.
The desserts were fun- I was tripping on the chocolate rolls for quite a few hours I think 🙂 The fried vanilla ice cream is interesting too, while I didn’t quite fancy the Ferrero Rocher ball.

Considering this food fest has been designed keeping in mind the American audience, I guess the sweetish/bland food works (the tables around seemed to be ordering like there was no tomorrow! :D) But as I said, I’d rather go back on a regular day and enjoy the duck and oyster sauce 🙂

This fest ends on 1st May 2016.
