Empathy in the Fitness Space

Over the years there have been several instances where friends and family have reached out to me because they were worried about the health of their loved ones, and were super unsure about how to get their point across without letting worry consume their relationship. Most of us have gone through that, isn’t it? Health of those close to us is something that we often worry about, but it comes with a lot of pressure. It is a sensitive topic, and can be an instant confidence killer if not handled in the right way. Most of us tend to react aggressively because of the fear that the thought of bad health brings along. “Please go to the gym you are becoming fat”  “oh my god you have gained so much weight ” “you will most definitely get diabetes”  “oh my God what happened to you”…. While these are logical fears…

Patience Is Everything- A Personal Story

They say that dreams can come true if you really believe in them. Sounds like a vague piece of advice that the internet is throwing at you, doesn’t it? I have this thought almost daily. Sometimes it is strong enough to make me feel “okay, life might not work out the way I want it to and I need to be okay with that.” Is this how rejection feels like? Maybe. Sometimes giving up is the easier way out, life is unfair that way. But what about those times when you achieve something that you had only dreamt of? Isn’t that a wild dream coming true? Doesn’t it mean that you are holding the dream close to your heart (subconsciously) and working towards it (again, subconsciously) , and guess what?  The universe rewards patient hard workers. Now *this* might seem like random advice on the internet, but in hindsight when…

Everyone Has Abs, But Not Everyone Has A Strong Core

Once upon a time, I was obsessed with the number “50” on the weighing scale. I would run, sometimes starve, and run some more (run 5km extra if I ate junk) all to stay strong at 50kgs. I lost around 10kgs in 6 months, and was super happy with the transformation because OMG I HAVE ABS! This is also when the #bcpaseena selfies started, and next thing you know, I was obsessed with “abs” My boyfriend introduced me to the gym in April 2017, and it’s the best thing he could have ever done. I remember struggling to bench press a total of 5kgs, always wondering “why is it that I can’t find the strength to do this?” I was scared to eat carbs, scared to fuel my body because food meant “weight” 2 months, and I continued struggling. We then headed to Europe for 2 weeks where I had…

Tracking Health With FitMe – Launch of a New Health Band

All those who’ve been following me on Instagram already know about the latest addition to my fitness routine – a health band! And by now you also know that it’s not just any health band; it’s the one which gives me my basic information like calories burnt, steps taken, sleep hours clocked in, but goes a step further to tell me if the air I’m working out in is fit to exercise in! All those who watched me LIVE on Instagram know what I’m talking about. For those who missed it, here’s a sneak peak. https://www.instagram.com/p/BiZE_X6nXtA/?taken-by=dumbbellsndrama And for those who are new to this, folks, say hello to FitMe, the new health band from iVOOMi. Before I start, I want to focus on WHY you must get yourself a health band in the first place. It’s important to keep a track of your health and fitness routines because not only…

Decoding #FitGirlProblems with BombayBellyrina

Those of you who follow me on Instagram already know how I spent most of my time in Bangalore with @bombaybellyrina While I have always loved her sass and confidence, it was her positive attitude and enthusiasm that inspired me to do so much more than what I could have even imagined (the videos on her profile are proof of this) Plus the fact that she is a super gorgeous woman who is always smiling and bubbling with energy made me feel that okay, shift to Bangalore, you’ve got family here :)  With no hold ups, and always someone to keep it real, my conversations with Chitra will always remain a highlight of this Bangalore trip. Most of our conversations were often interrupted with us saying “Fit Girl Problems” which inspired us to do a fun shoot about it (totally unintentional and last minute!) Without further ado, I’ll leave you…

Being Fit On Vacation: A Collaboration with Phuket Fit

I recently got back from a fitness vacation and I still cannot get over how amazing it was. We’d do yoga while the sun rose, flip tyres and test our body strength on suspension cables during the day, and enjoy running into gorgeous sunsets to end the day, all thanks to Phuket Fit. When this collaboration opportunity came up, I didn’t need to think twice before agreeing to signing up for a fitness program while on vacation. I mean why not? Isn’t a vacation just another reason to take time off to care about your health? The result? We slayed it! I understand I haven’t been too much of a sharer on my social media recently (With blocking so many bot accounts on a daily basis to keeping a check on all the likes that I’ve been getting on the posts, it gets a little overwhelming at times) So once…

“Muscles are not for girls” And Other Things Girls Who Love Lifting Are Laughing About

I absolutely love the drama that comes along with the fitness journey. Initially, all that I heard would make me mad. Then I learnt to take a step back and observe, and now, I laugh. Everyone has their set of opinions, but these right here, these are the real gems. Sometimes it’s fun being a woman in the world of men, keeps us all entertained. Thought I’d share some of them with you. Please note – I have at some point said/done all of this, got my point across, and had a great laugh. Point being- you do you girl, go get that booty, go get those gains, go lift that bro who thought he could mansplain this to you. Amen. Gym Bro *sees girl at the gym* – Oh you’re here for your cardio?  Yup, not going near those weights, no no, they say they turn you into a…

From Skinny To Strong #TransformationTuesday

This #TransformationTuesday I thought I’d share a quick recap of my fitness journey over the last 4 years. It’s been a journey full of sweat, pain and tears. I’ve gone from “I need to be skinny” to “I need to be strong” and that I believe is the biggest transformation in my life. I have made a ton of mistakes (more on this blog post) and I have learnt life lessons from them. I have met some of the best, most humble people on this journey. I once treated food and exercise as punishement. Today, I understand the nourishment value of food, exercise, and recovery. Injury taught me patience. I learnt the importance of good sleep and rest. I learnt to love my body, but it took me quite a few years to get here. Sharing with you some of the major points in my fitness journey (tthose of you who…

Do Not Let Them Make You Feel Guilty For Taking Out Time For Yourself

All those who’ve been with me on Instagram over the last 2 months know that I plan to focus on mental as well as physical fitness, starting this year. As promised, here I am with my two bits on mental health. I have so much to share with you, but I am not sure where to start from. Learning how to disconnect and tune into some ME-TIME is what I think works for starters, I plan to document my experience with mediation, yoga, social media and trolls, and a lot more later. Do feel free to write in if you want me to address certain topics, I’d be glad to do that. Before I start, I’d like to give some context to this article. I’ve been focusing a lot on disconnecting from the internet. Being a blogger and a digital content writer, this gets difficult. We live in  a world…

Ignoring The Warning Signs- How I allowed stress to take over my life

I’ve always been proud of my multi-tasking skills, and considered my ability to prioritize work as one of my strongest skills. While I enjoyed the confidence and the recognition my skills got me, I forgot to account for the fact that too much of something is harmful in the long run. Allow me to share with you a  personal story about how I let stress take over me. But it isn’t really that simple. To help you understand context, I need to rant a lot more than usual. Bear with me. I could have finished this off with a “Reasons why rest is important” but a story of a personal failure always leaves a better impact (so my Google Analytics tells me about my posts in 2017) Freelancing left me insecure.  Freelancing is tough for a bunch of reasons, all of which depend on one personality trait- discipline. Thankfully I…
